Sent into exile on the Island of Elba in 1814, Napoléon Bonaparte secretly lands in Golfe Juan on the 1st March, 1815. he'll go to Paris following a road named after him and which is nowadays, more or less, the RN 85.
The 3rd March, he reached Castellane. Napoléon is welcomed in the sub-prefecture. After dinner, he takes the wrong road under the snow through the Col des Lèques (the historical path still exists and has to be done by foot), along the Asse river to reach Barrême where Cambronne had found an accommodation. The 4th March, via the Col du Corobin, the troop goes down towardsDigne-les-Bains to meet the road along the Bléone. The Emperor stayed at the Auberge du Petit-Paris, whereas Cambronne goes to Malijai in order to requisition Noguier’s Castle.
In the morning of the 5th March, Napoléon passes through l’Escale and Volonne on the right bank of the Durance and enters Sisteron via the Porte du Dauphiné. The Emperor eats at the Auberge du Bras d’Or, held by the grand-father of famous poet Paul Arène. Then he went on towards Gap and Grenoble.
