The Valley of the Ubaye is found on the eastern extremity of the Alpes de Haute-Provence, between the Hautes-Alpes, the Alpes Maritimes and Italy. It embodies the limit between Provence and Dauphiné.
The valley of the Ubaye is surrounded by high summits. The highest peak is the Aiguille du Chambeyron (3412m), on the township of Saint-Paul sur Ubaye.
The other famous summits of the valley are the Brec de Chambeyron (3389m), peaks of the Font Sancte (3385m), Grand Bérard (3046m), Tête de Siguret (3032m), the Chapeau de Gendarme, the Grande Séolane and the Pain de Sucre, south of Barcelonnette, are lower but still emblematic of the valley.
Ubaye is also famous for its ski resorts like Sauze/Super Sauze, Pral-Loup, Col de Larche, Saint-Paul sur Ubaye, Sainte-Anne la Condamine.
Last but not least, the valley is well-known for its numerous battlements built throughout the centuries and which the last generation is known as the Ligne Maginot of the Alps.
