The Durance and the Bléone are two rivers crossing the Alpes de Haute-Provence. Manosque, Sisteron and Digne-les-Bains contribute to make these two valleys the main basin of population, economic and tourist activities of the department.
Between Luberon and Contadour, the Pays de Forcalquier and the Montagne de Lure, witnesses of a pastoral life still important nowadays. The rural architecture of the villages, farms, sheepfolds is one of the many jewels of this territory.
Nested on the bend of the Durance, between the Serre-Ponçon dam (North) and the Citadelle of Sisteron (South), the ‘’Hautes-Terres de Provence’’ (highlands) gather middle mountain villages and hamlets from 600 to 1200m-high, on the two cantons of la Motte-du-Caire and Turriers.
In this region where valleys (Durance, Grand Vallon, Sasse) meet mountains (Pic des Monges 2115m-high) and a wild and preserved environment where and extraordinary fauna and flora contribute to the magic atmosphere.
This ancestral land, less than 2-hours from Aix en Provence and Marseille, kept its traditions alive : breeding, cereals, renowned fruit culture in wild landscapes where hikers, climbers, gliders and pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostella are found.
The most beautiful panorama is undoubtedly to be seen all along the Via Ferrata de la Grande Fistoire, at the heart of this territory. Climbing a via ferrata, a product especially designed for hikers who love nature but are not climbers, allows to enjoy the sensations of climbing with all the safety required thanks to an adapted equipment. 60m-long gateways, le bombu (camber), the Nepalese bridge and its great wall, 3 magnificent zip-line rides which are 150, 135 and 220m long.
