Leading network of farm and village accommodation. In 50 years, the Gîtes de France have confirmed their leadership on the market of accommodation in rural areas and have 56 000 addresses all over France

Originally, our aim was to provide an extra income for farmers by diversifying their activities, at the same time making it possible for all to go away on holiday at a reasonable price. This is how our network and the idea of «public utility» were born. Today, we are a group of departmental and regional Gîtes de France associations and human relationships are our foremost concern.

A Brief History....

1951: Setting up of the first self-catering gite in the (now called the Alpes de Haute-Provence).

1955: Founding of the Fédération Nationale des Gîtes de France. Publication of the first directory with 146 gites!

1969: Officialization of Bed & Breakfasts.

1970: Setting up of the first departmental booking service in Isère.

1990: Setting up of the EUROGITES European Federation for Farm and Village Tourism

1998: Opening of the www.gites-de-france.com web site

2005: 50th anniversary of the National Federation.

The Organisation

In France, a team of over 600 people at the service of owners and users through the National Federation, 95 departmental relays.

Abroad, the Gîtes de France have been present for over 20 years on the main European markets.
